According to researchers in Germany, the pain of cancer can be reduced by blocking the growth of certain types of hormones, such as molecules produced by tumors.
The research team shows how molecules grow in body tissue causing severe pain. The molecules under study are known to have a role in the formation of blood cells in bone marrow. But, this is also the first time that these molecules cause pain in cancer patients. The discovery by a team of researchers from Heidelberg University is published in Nature Medicine.
The pain is one symptom associated with many types of diseases. The researchers hope their work could produce medicines and new treatments to arrest the growth of these molecules so that pain can be reduced.
